Rug Plot

As was mentioned in Kernel Density Estimation post, a histogram is a classic way to visualize a distribution but it has its limitations and is sometimes even misleading. A Rug Plot would be another way to display a distribution as an adjunct to your primary plot.  A Rug Plot is simply a projection of raw data points onto a particular axis, without involving the binning process of a histogram.

In Origin2019b, a new Rug tab is introduced in the Axis Dialog, allowing you to add Rug Plots to your graph and to control rug display properties.

Below are some typical use cases of the Rug Plots.  You can download this project to see how they’ve been made.
