Dot Plots in Origin 2025

In Origin 2025, a new Dot Plot feature has been introduced, offering users a tool for visualizing the distribution of a small to moderate-sized dataset. Each data point is represented by a dot positioned along x-axis. When multiple data points share the same value, the dots are stacked vertically, allowing for a clear visualization of frequency or clustering within the data. Compared to other types of statistical plots, such as histograms or box charts, dot plots are better suited for small data sets, making it easy to see how individual observations relate to the overall distribution. The Dot Plot Templates are under the Plot:Statistical menu.

Origin also includes the Grouped Stacked Dot Plot for comparing distributions across groups or categories. Dots representing data points from different groups are stacked vertically, allowing users to examine the distribution of each individual group as well as the entire dataset.

The above sample graphs can be accessed by going to the menu Help:Learning Center and searching for Dot Plot.
